this morning B and i were walking to our classes (picture B with his already sweaty shirt and unnecessarily large towel draped over his shoulder, there was no low-hanging backpack though) when we walked by the office and stopped to say hello to a congregation of thai teachers. we say our hellos and turn to move on when one of the teachers points to B and says “superman.” B looks at himself and gets this smug look while looking down at his arms, he clearly thinks they’re comparing him to a superhero.  watching this, i immediately say “its your cape, they think your big towel is a cape.”

I just wanted to give everyone an update on our schedule for October.

We are getting the first week off (going to Koh Pipi) and we get the last week. So our plan is that we are going to head north and hopefully meet most/all of you in Loas for the tubing down the river delio. We will be up North until we leave for Indonesia on November 8th.

Let me know what you all are thinking about the whole Loas rive fiasco – just as a little sugar to sprinkle on top – I hear they have “happy pizza”!!

K: Yea, tons of things, why?

B: Their quality is terrible!

K: Sometimes you get what you pay for.

B: Well I bought a cheap belt and I couldn’t get it off.

K: (Holding back extreme fits of laughter) Really?

B: It stuck together.

K: (Still silent, fearing that the laughter would be to malicious if I let it out.)

B: I couldn’t go to the bathroom for 9 hours.

K: Well what did you do? (-I had to ask)

B: I had to use a screwdriver to take it apart while I was wearing it.

As if the tiny light blue robe wasn’t a good enough visual, this one shall tide over your nightmares for awhile.

Next week is right around the corner- everyone seems to have their plans in order/ducks in a row, but one thing is sure BKK histerics Queen-style Saturday August 14th…all in favor say “I” (I am assuming all you mofos are I-ing). I wanted to plant a seed (as it has been refered to as) about Oct. Everyone has their list of things they would like to do I know this, but it would be great to coordinate a meet-up….maybe BALI?!?!?!?!? I have been pricing out a Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia tour of sorts. Mill around some ideas peeps. But for now- have a great rest of the week, a relaxing weekend, and….um…smoke weed every day (in honor of Dre- an epic way to end any thought/song/sentence/life).

Space

Sitting down in the bleachers, I was welcomed by an orangutan band: drummer, guitarist, bassist — the works. This was a sight to behold; they were really going to town. But just as the ADHD crowd began to tire of the band*, a cohort of apes, [including the scantily clad], began to zip-line, swing, and climb onto the stage and begin dancing. I spit out my popcorn and beer came out my nose.

As the song ended and the apes began to drift off stage, out came the master of ceremonies to perform the introductions [read: the series of hijinx familiar to 1920s and 30s slap-stick comedy -- 'tit-for-tat' routines that inevitably culminate with the orangutan making a fool of the stooge emcee]. These introductions were comedy gold. There is something about ape / human routines that are for-itself funny. Even if the two beings are not engaging in something that is per se ‘comedic,’ the sheer fact of monkey and man recognizing one another as equals is both bizarre and wonderful.***

After the introduction and a series of comedic mishaps, the two contenders entered the ring. The defending champion was dressed in blue [denoting first place] and the challenger in red [denoting 2nd place].***** Down to an orangutan in a pink bikini walking around the stage holding the ’round one’ sign, the fight was utterly replicative of an actual boxing match. The bell was then rung. The fight was nigh! The apes charged towards each other, then all chaos ensued and about 50 apes were all around the stage and theater. It was pandemonium.****** I was laughing so hard.

Then i had my picture taken with the champion. The end.

*It is funny that we call this group of monkeys holding instruments a band. They were not actually playing the instruments and instead it was Europe’s infamous “The Final Countdown,” playing over a PA.** Similarly, it is funny that we call a bunch of ‘Monkees’ holding instruments a band. [Not to say i don't love the monkees].
**You couldn’t even play the final countdown with only a guitar, drums, and stand-up bass. Duh.
***Sometimes I feel the same way when I watch people talk to Graham after he has had a couple a drinks.****

*****It would be miserable to be the monkey in red. It is like being a player on the Washington Generals, [the team the harlem globetrotters play against every game]; the game is rigged against you. You are going to lose every time. I would imagine this ape has low self-esteem. I would.
******For some reason two chimpanzees dress as doctors entered the scene at this point. This struck me as odd and i still can’t quite put a finger on why it does.

Has anyone tried eating bugs yet? They sell deep fried grasshoppers in my town’s market. I’m going to go for it, but I was wondering if anyone else has dipped in yet.  I can’t stop eating these fried green chili peppers filled with pork and noodles called something like prik thot. If you haven’t found them yet, it comes highly recommended.

Back to the sucking…..In accordance with the Dr’s orders I was going to take my medicine after breakfast…ah. No liquid to do so. So, I set out to the drinking fountain…I normal stroll through the Prathom 3 hall of the penitentiary. I had a nice jaunt, looking out into the soaked field on-ward to the back drop of gorgeous mountains. I motored down the first flight of stairs and hopped onto the landing, unable to miss a pair of white shoes attached to a red skirt (a girl’s body-on her knees)…not thinking much I rounded the landing and went to the drinking fountain…It occurred to me- my water bottle half of the way full- that, that was the boys bathroom…..I looked up through the chain-link fence into the bathroom where I could see two adolescent figures shuffling. I stopped on the landing looked over with a raised brow- the girl scurried off as I began the climb the stairs…I glanced back midway and caught a boys eye as he was looking at me through the mirror…I could see he was zipping his pants and tucking in his shirt. I shook my head, he bowed his. I went on down the hall, minding my business- after all, who hasn’t snuck away from their morning class for a morning BJ in the Prathom 2 bathroom?
